The final project for this course is the creation of a statistical analysis report . Operations management professionals are often relied upon to make decisions regarding operational processes. Those who utilize a data - driven, structured approach have a clear advantage over those offering decisions based solely on intuition. You will be provided with a scenario often encountered by an operations manager. Your task is to review the “A - Cat Corp.: Forecasting” scena rio, the addendum , and the accompanying data in the case scenario and addendum . In Module Seven, you will submit your selection of statistical tools and data analysis, which are critical elements III and IV. You will submit a 3 - to 4 - page paper and a spr eadsheet that provides justification for the appropriate statistical tools needed to analyze the company’s data, a hypothesis, the results of your analysis, any inferences from your hypothesis test, and a forecasting model that addresses the company’s problem.

Aim:-

This aim of this assignment is to review the case study and prepare a solution for the current scenario which is happening in Cat-corp.

Scenario:-

Introduction to the problem:

A-Cat Corporation is an organization who indulges in the activity of robust statistical process control (quality control) program to monitor the quality of its transformers. Ratanparkhi is the operation head of the organization and he is given charges to prepare a solution for under stocking and overstocking. This case study is all about sales of refrigerator and sales of transfer. The aim of this analysis is to identify the number of transformers which is to be manufactured for marinating the company sales and production process. The previous analysis done on Cat-corp. has shown that the production of mean number of transformer has increased during the year from 2006 to 2010.

A.    Provide a concise description of the scenario that you will be analyzing. The following questions might help you describe the scenario: What is the type of organization identified in the scenario? What is the organization’s history and problem identified in the scenario? Who are the key internal and external stakeholders?

This is the process and quality control organization, who manufactures transformers and the company, is involved primary in manufacturing balanced number of transformers and refrigerators. The secondary goal of the company is to maintain the quality of the manufactured products.

The problem identified in the scenario is to maintaining the sales figure in the company has become a bit difficult task. Sometime the number of products manufactured is less against the supply, and sometimes the number of products manufactured is more than the demand. To balance this situation operational team is focusing on data collection of 4-5 years which will help in identifying the mean number of product required which can help to overcome from this problem.

The key internal holders are the staffs working in operational department, and the external holders are the sales team. These people are the direct dealers of company, who has responsibility to overcome from the current problem which is happening in cat-corp. organization.

I.                   Create an analysis plan to guide your analysis and decision making:

Step:-1

First the company should focus on collecting data, of sales figures of past 5 years.

Step:-2

Next the company should focus on preparing a graph of increasing and decreasing sales of number of transformers in past 5 years.

Step:-3

Once the sales chart is prepared in graph, the responsible team should, find out the mean, number of transformer required, which should be required to produce to meet the demand.

Step:-4

The main confusion in the operation team is that, based on 2006 sales figure the mean number of product is 775 and based on 2010 figure it is about 1000. To overcome from this problem, don’t make any decision based on one year data. Put 5 years data together and then find out the mean.

Step:-5

The mean generated from 5 years data should be accepted to produce the transformers, and apart from this the operation head is also willing to pay incentives to that employee, who works hard for the organization to meet the markets demand. This should be strictly adopted by the head of the team, this will bring a good flow of work environment.

A.    Identify any quantifiable factors that may be affecting the performance of operational processes. Provide a concise explanation of how these factors may be affecting the operational processes.

As per the scenario, the laziness of internal employee can also be reason to affect the performance. That’s why company is unable to get the real data. For this company should produce a trusty and healthy work environment. And the second factor is the lack of a good data base management system. For this company should adopt the easiest approach of finding accurate data, and then take any decision for sales team.

B.    Develop a problem statement that addresses the given problem in the scenario and contains quantifiable measures.

The main problem is that there are facts which contradict while taking decision. For this, the company should value each and every employee decision who are helping to overcome from this situation. Don’t take decision by taking help of 2 or 3 persons. First make a committee of at least 10 members in the company of every section and give them individual task. Once the report is collected from all, send it to the responsible head who can take decision. Then the decision which will be generated by the head should be followed by all. This can help to finish the problem in the company.

C. Propose a strategy that addresses the problem of the organization in the given case study and seeks to improve sustainable operational processes. How will adjustments be identified and made?

The adjustments should be done from lower division staffs to the higher division staffs. Each and every employee should be forced to provide correct data of manufacturing, supply and service to the concerned team. By this company will be able to get the correct data, and from that data, the actual mean value can be obtained easily. To improve the operational process, company has already figured out the last ten years sales data of refrigerator and transformers, which has increased over the years. Now the company should focus on plotting a graph of actual data, which should be addressed, from the heads of the organization.

Conclusion:-

Hence the case study has been studied and the required problem has been generated. The mean value thus generated will be helpful in taking decision for the company. As company is involved in process control and quality control activity, to maintain this good work environment has been produced with analysis technique.
