Question
Examine the chart following.
Process A standard deviation is .9, Process B standard deviation is 1.4, and the mean of both processes is 12.
a. If the product specification quality limits were 12 +/- 3, which of the processes more consistently meets specification? Explain why.
b. If the product specification quality limits were changed to 12 +/- 6, is quality loosening or tightening? Which process would benefit the most from this change?
0.5 0.45 0.4 0.35 0.3 Z 0.25 0.2 0.15 0.1 0.05 Employing the Normal Distribution Process A Process B 10 12 1 4 16 Product 18Explanation / Answer
a) If the product specification quality limits are 12 +or -3, The process A which will be more consistently meets the specifications. For Process A the specification range is (9.3,14.7)
For Proces B the specification limits is (7.8,16.2), For Process B the specification interval is more broder than Process A.
Hence Process A will be more consistent than Process B as the sample point will be more concentrated to a central value.
b) If the product specification quality limits changed from from from 12+/-3 to 12+/-6 then the quality does not loose.
in 3sigma specification the the defect rate is 6.68% while in 6sigma the defect rate 0.27% that means we would be beneficial by this chnge of 2+/-6.
