No, this is not at all an ethical claim because terminating employees at will by the organization can never be fair at any instance. I believe that organizations need to consider the decision because this may help the organization as it is performing poorly but the organization may lose the trust it possess because now individuals will not prefer the organization to work for in future. The primary issue here is that the organization is performing poorly and it has to terminate employees who are highly paid and such employees generally are the middle management and top management and also employees who have performed well, on the other hand employees whom the top managers prefer or like are retained which is completely unethical and cannot be justified as this is an act of discrimination based on preference. We understand that a business organization is not a non-profit corporation so it has to generate revenue in order to sustain and therefore in the process it can actually take harsh decisions but even that should be transparent without any discrimination but that is not happening in this case. So I believe that the issue is not ethical and the organization should rethink the decision for its betterment.
