EXAMPLE:
Hello! I will take number 2. There can be a correlation between two items, for instance an increase in someone’s salary and purchasing clothing, but we cannot conclude that increases in someone’s salary causes an increase in purchasing clothing

Explanation / Answer

I am choosing question 1 to answer.

Correlation doesn't imply causation.

Correlation is the measure of the degree of linear association between two variables. It only depicts the strength of the relationship but it doesn't tell anything about the cause and effect relationship between the given variable. One example of this can be the correlation between height and weight for children. Generally the height and weight are positively correlated and the increase in height associated with the increase in weight but we can't conclude that in increase in height causes the increase in weight. Here age is the lurking variable because both height and weight increases along with age.
