Question

One individual in the study was 160 cm tall and had a tendon diameter that produced a residual of - 1.1 mm in the regression. What was this person's actual tendon diameter? For people who are 2 SD_s above average in height, how many SD_s above average would you predict their tendon diameter to be? Explain what the slope of the regression line indicates about the relationship between tendon diameter and height. What percentage of the variation in the tendon diameters is explained by the regression on height?

Explanation / Answer

a)

y^ = 2.4 +0.03 * 160 = 7.2 mm

residual = yi - yi^ = -1.1

hence y = y^ -1.1 = 7.2 -1.1 = 6.1 mm

b)

2*r = 0.36 *2 = 0.72 sd

c)

slope = 0.03

hence when height is increase by 1 unit ,diameter of tendon will be increase by 0.03 unit

d) % of variation is given by R^2 = 0.36^2 = 0.1296

12.96%
