Question

A researcher is interested in determining if there is a relationship between handedness and penmanship. To study this question, the researcher submitted writing samples from 100 students to penmanship experts. The samples were rated to be of low, medium, or high penmanship quality. The observed frequencies of these ratings are shown below. Determine if there is a significant relationship exists between handedness and penmanship quality. Test at =0.05.

Explanation / Answer

a) Ho : there is no significant relationship between handedness and penmanship quality.

Ha there is a significant relationship between handedness and penmanship quality.

b) the level of significance = 0.05

and the critical value = 5.99

c) Test statistic =

p-value = 0.76

d)

since p-value = 0.76 > 0.05

we fail to reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is not enough evidence to conclude that

there is a significant relationship between handedness and penmanship quality.
