Question
Assume that a Teacher's Union is trying to get a salary raise for its members. As part of the negotiations, the union uses the chart shown above. This chart represents several school districts in the state. The Union argues to the contract negotiator that the chart clearly indicates that if more money is spent on students (teachers get a raise) ACT scores of students will also rise. If you were representing the opposing point of view to the Union, what counter-argument would be your best choice? Lack of evidence. You have no specific example of a school where this has worked. You need to bring in the teachers and students from a school where this has worked. Anecdotal evidence. We need more schools from more states to prove this actually works. Correlation does not imply causation. Spending more money on students doesn't CAUSC the student, to score higher on the ACT test. You can't really argue with these types of result. It look, very convincing. Give the teachers their raise.Explanation / Answer
