Question

Use SPSS for the following problem

A psychologist was interested in the effects of time of day on critical thinking. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups (Morning, Afternoon, or Night) and given a measure to test for the number of answers correct on a critical thinking ability test. The following data were obtained from the study.

1. Please state the hypotheses.

2. What is the IV? List all levels of the IV.

3. What is the DV?

4. Provide a formal APA-style answer (be sure to include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and the effect size).

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

A psychologist was interested in the effects of time of day on critical thinking. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups (Morning, Afternoon, or Night) and given a measure to test for the number of answers correct on a critical thinking ability test. The following data were obtained from the study.

1. Please state the hypotheses.

2. What is the IV? List all levels of the IV.

IV: Time of the day (Morning, Afternoon, or Night)

3. What is the DV?

DV: number of answers correct on a critical thinking ability test

4. Provide a formal APA-style answer (be sure to include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and the effect size).

A one-way within subjects (or repeated measures) ANOVA was conducted to compare the effect of time on number of answers correct on a critical thinking ability test. The mean number of correct answer for morning is 4.00(0.82), for Afternoon is 2.00(1.15) and for Night is 6.00(1.63). There was a significant effect of the IV , F (2,6) = 18.00, p = .003. The effect size is 0.857.
