All participants in the study are given the same words. They rate their familiarity with these words (after the reaction time has been measured) on a 7 point scale (high= familiar). a) y^ = b0 + b1 x

y^ = ybar - b1xbar + b1 x

hence

y^ - ybar = b1(x - xbar)

b1 = r * s_y/s_x

hence

(y^ - ybar )= r * s_y/s_x(x - xbar)

hence Z -score = r *(x - xbar) /s_x

b) when x = 5

prediction =  ybar + r * s_y/s_x(x - xbar)

= 2.0833 -0.878 * 0.97797/2.0817*(5 - 3.6667)

= 1.53334166
