Question

Below is my discussion post on ANOVA, after reading it how would one put this in APA style? for example here is the way the results would be reported in a journal article. The results are written in APA style: t(16) = 2.39, p = .015 or t(16) = 2.39, p < .025. Please advise

The research topic is whether or not professional sportspersons have special cognitive abilities? To investigate this I will use a task for visual working memory – the N-back task. I will recruit several groups of participants: 1 – professionals tennis players, 2 – amateur tennis players, 3 – professionals in some other sport disciplined not related to moving small objects, like athletics, 4 – people who never played tennis and were never engaged in systematic sports activities. The independent variable is the group of participants (categorical), and it takes four values (or levels) – the numbers of groups. The dependent variable is the score in N-back task for each participant. I will perform one-way between-subject ANOVA because I have one measurement for each participant and have to compare 4 groups (or 4 levels of one factor) with different participants assigned to one of groups. The null hypothesis suggests no differences in the population means. The research or alternative hypothesis claims that the means are not equal, implying that at least one of the groups has different mean value (e.g., Brown & Melamed 2007). ANOVA is a parametric test and requires that the dependent variable is continuous and the observations are independent of one another, the data distribution is normal or near normal, and data should not include the outliers (e.g., Brase & Brase, 2013). As a result for this test I will get F and p values, that will allow me to reject or accept the null hypothesis at the chosen level of confidence. In case I reject the null hypothesis (with p<0.05), I can investigate the group means further using the post hoc analysis. I can do the pairwise comparison of groups using the two independent sample T-test with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons. The analysis may show that group 1 has better scores in N-back task than groups 3 or 4, and that there is no difference between groups 2 and 3, etc.

Explanation / Answer

A one-wat Between subjects ANOVA was conducted to compare the special cognitive abilities between four types of sportsperson-professional tennis players, amateur tennis players, professional in some other sports disciplined not related to moving small objects, like athletes, and people who never player tennis and were never engaged in systematic sports activities. There were a significant effect [F(k-1, N-k)=?p=?]. Post hoc comparisonn for Bonferroni analysis indicated that group 1[M=?, SD=?] was significantly different from group 3[M=?, SD=?] and group 1 [M=?, SD=?] was significantly different from group 4 [M=?, SD=?].However, group 2 [M=?, SD=?] was not significantly different from group 3[M=?, SD=?]. Combining all together, it suggests that there exists special cognitive abilities between professional sportsperson.
