Intravenous (IV) infusion fluids produced by three different pharmaceutical companies (Abbott, Turnbull, and Hanson) were tested for their concentration of particulate contaminants measured as the number of particles larger than five microns in diameter per litre of IV fluid. Six samples were collected from each company, however one sample from Hanson was lost in transit. The concentrations of particulate contaminants for the 17 samples are given in the following table: (a) Write an appropriate statistical model (to represent the responses using an appropriate equation) to describe the above data. Describe all symbols/notations used in the model. (b) Estimate the (three) group means, overall mean, and error variance (sigma^2) from the data. (c) Does the data provide sufficient evidence to indicate that at least one of the companies produces IV fluids with a mean concentration of particulate contaminants that is different from either of the other companies? Test at the 5% level of significance show all working and include appropriate hypothesis statements).Explanation / Answer
