Question
For a topic of your interest, begin to design a research proposal by sketching an outline of:
* State the general problem / topic area. (Do NOT focus upon smoking; annual income; or LTC quality.)
* What are two or more variables that you are trying to link?
* Identify which of the variables are dependent and independent?
* How might you operationalize your variables? That is, specify the attributes of variables.
* State a hypothesis you might wish to examine. Specify or imply attributes, and provide a “direction” to your hypothesis (i.e. start with values of X that predict values of Y).
Explanation / Answer
my area of research lies in the fact that if there is any significant relationship btween anxiety score and number of hours watching TV
i am trying to link anxiety score and number of hours watching TV
dependent: anxiety score
independent variable: number of hours watching TV
both variables continuous which are measured on ratio scale of measurement
ho: there is no significant relationship btween anxiety score and number of hours watching TV
h1: there is significant relationship btween anxiety score and number of hours watching TV
use regression analysis to test this. Null Hypothesis: Hoi: Model is not significant. V/s Alternative Hypothesis: H1i: Model is not significant. I use F test statistic to test this. If p-value < alpha, I reject Ho at 5% level of significance otherwise I fail to reject it.
