Pharmacy ergonomics (simple linear regression) Pharmacists spend much of their workday standing at a counter preparing medications, completing computer or paperwork, and talking on the phone with physician's offices, insurance providers, etc. Pharmacists are at risk for musculoskeletal disorders because of these job demands, and an IE 4461 project team sought to document the postural demands on local pharmacists. They observed each pharmacist for 30 minutes and completed a RULA scoresheet (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment: a quick measure of postural risk, where 1-2 is acceptable, 3-4 may require workplace changes, 5-6 requires workplace changes soon, and 7 or higher is unacceptable). They also collected the height of the pharmacist and the height of his/her work counter. The team suspected that a mismatch between counter height and pharmacist height may lead to higher RULA scores. Based on the data, use regression analysis to determine if there is a relationship between RULA scores and the difference between counter height and pharmacist height Table 1: Pharmacist workplace ergonomics data Pharmacist Stature-table height (in)RULA score 21 22.5 23.5 25 28 29 4 31 34Explanation / Answer
## Using "Minitab"
Regression Analysis: Rule score versus Height
The regression equation is
Rule score = 2.05 + 0.120 Height
Predictor Coef SE Coef T P
Constant 2.046 2.676 0.76 0.470
Height 0.11977 0.09627 1.24 0.253
S = 1.27978 R-Sq = 18.1% R-Sq(adj) = 6.4%
Comment: the estimated p-value od Statue-table height is 0.253. Hence, we can conclude that RULA score does not effected by statue-table height at 0.05 level of significance.
