York Lea Overall Workplace Information Yorklea is a social service Agency that deals with Youth justice ministry consisting of boys& girls who for whatever reason have been removed from their homes and put into a residential homes situated in a residential neighbourhood. Residence of the homes are in different programs for their individual needs. Children from 8 to 18 years of age reside in these homes. Homes operate 24 hours X7 for 52 weeks of the year. The union has 150 members and 70% are female with 50% between the ages of 25 and 35. Management consists of 12 people 75% are female. Staff turnover is high with seniority of 75 % less than 2 years. Neighbours are not happy having a group home so close to them and do what they can to stay clear of the homes. This adds stress to those living and working in the home. Program is growing whereby in 2015 there will be 3 more homes added to meet the wait list of those required to enter the program. Management has not communicated th is to the Union.

Explanation / Answer

During negotiation, patient comfort must be taken into account. More training should be given to the staff members with regards to handling female patients. Practice of inculcating trust into the staff members should be Incorporated. As majority of the staff member are female staff members their safety should be of utmost priority. Guidelines of maintaining discipline should be in place and management should ensure that staff members are following disciplinary guidelines.
