Question

Can you please as many as you can I would greatly appreciate it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. A rocket sled has a speed of 650 mph. If the sled stops in 1.50seconds, how far did the sled travel while stopping? (60mph = 88 ft/s)

2. One of NASA's centriguges has a radius of 9.50m. Determine the rotation rate in revolutions per second that is required to produce a radial accelaration of 12.5g's. (1g=9.81 m/s^2)

3. A person walks 750 m North and then 450m 30 degrees South of East. At the end of the walk, what is the magnitude and direction of the perosn's displacement from the starting point?

Explanation / Answer

1) speed of rocket , v = 650 mph

v = 650 * 88/60 = 953 feet/s

acceleration of sled , a = v/t

a = 953/1.50 = 635.6 feet/s^2

Now, for the distance travelled by sled = u^2/(2a)

distance travelled by sled = 953^2/(2 *635.6)

distance travelled by sled = 714.5 feet

2)

let the angular speed is w

as a = w^2 * r

12.5 * 9.8 = w^2 * 9.50

w = 3.59 rad/s

the angular speed needed is 3.59 rad/s

3)

for the displacement

d = 750 j + 450 * (cos(30 degree) i - j * sin(30 degree))

d = 389.7 i - 525 j

d = sqrt(389.7^2 + 525^2) at arctan(525/389.7) degree

d = 653.8 m at 53.7 degree south of east

the displacement is 653.8 m at 53.7 degree south of east
