Question
Issac can throw a baseball to a maximium height of 23.4 m above the ground. What is the spped of the ball when it hits the ground? _________m/s
What is the total time of flight of the ball if Isaac releases the vertical throw 2 m above the ground? ______s
What is the initial velocity of the throw?_______m/s
If Isaac then took a trip to the moon where the acceleration due to gravity is 1.62 m/s^2 and threw the baseball vertically with the same intital velocity and release point, what would be the maximum height the ball would travel above the Moon's surface? __________m
Explanation / Answer
here,
maximum height , h = 23.4 m
the spped of the ball when it hits the ground, v = sqrt(2*g*h)
v = sqrt(2*9.81 * 23.4) m/s
v = 21.4 m/s
let the initial speed be u
u = sqrt(2 * g * ( h -2))
u = sqrt(2*9.8*(23.4 -2)) m/s
u= 20.5 m/s
the total time of flight of the ball , t = v/g + u/g
t = 21.5/9.8 + 20.5/9.8
t = 4.3 s
the maximum height , h = u^2/( 2 * 1.66) + 2
h = 20.5^2 /(2 * 1.66) + 2
h = 128.6 m
