As the organization's advisor, how would you approach this problem and what advice would you give to your client's management team?
Explanation / Answer
The process to manage resitance and threat of the employees to the change the following steps can be followed:
- consider resistance to change as an expected reaction. Change implementation in any organization or department isn't a small step. It involves a lot of changes in the work styles, patterns, approaches, positions and strategies pf each employee to work hence is not easily accepted by the employees already working smoothly with the old trends. Hence change implementation will come with resistance this should be understood by the manager in advance.
- involving employees to participate and communicate. This can helptoavoid resistance to a good extent. Not letting the employees feel unimportant and being forced to accept the change but instead making them feel a part of the change to be implemented and asking their feedback and input on the same will help to not make them resistant against the change.
- managing the change implemention- Managing the change thatis to be implemented with due planning and processing is the best way to avoid the resistance that comes with it. It should be done by owning the change and the responsibilities that come with it, creating an environment at workplace that has trusted, supportive and understanding staff. They will believe in the step you take as a manager for the changes and want to follow it out of trust on you.
- communicating the change in the most effective manner- The change that has to be implemented has to be communicated to the employees according to what and how they want to hear it. Explaining them their benefits that will come with the change, the growth it will bring in the business of the organization and ultimately help in their employment with the organization, all these points can make the employees develop a positive approach towards the change.
