Please note that lectures system records your bmission date/time details. lork on the following problems (total of 3): 1.(25 pts) XYZ company considers to give some advertisements on TV, radio or newspapers. XYZ wants to maximize the number of people they reach with these advertisements; however, it has a limited budget of $250,000. The information about the advertisements are given in the following table: Ad type Audience (number of people per advertisement TV 16,000 Radio 11,000 Paper 3,500 $25,000 $13,000 5 6,000 The company also has these constraints: . TV ads cannot be more than 5 e Radio ads cannot be more than 15. . Newspaper ads must be at least 3. . A maximum of 20 ads can be given. XYZ has a budget of $250,000. (hp Pr F3 F4 ?

Explanation / Answer

The decision is to be taken regarding the number of ads to be published in TV, radio and paper. Decision variables will be thes number of ads to be published in each medium, let it be

t for TV

r for radio and

p for paper.

The objective function is given by the sum of the total audience reached by all the media combined. It will be specified by product of audience attracted by each ad and the number of ads,

f(t,r,p) = 16000*t + 11000*r + 3500*p

The constraints for each variable are as specified in the question

t <= 5

r <= 15

p => 3

t+r+p <= 20

25000*t + 13000*r + 6000*p <= 250000

An additional constraint needs to be added to maintain integer value for each variable, as number of ads can't be decimal.

(Note I have used excel solver to solve this LP, but putting these criteria in any program will get the required result)

Objective function value, f(t,r,p) = 196500 for values of t = 2, r = 14, p = 3

hope this helps :)
