Question
The Shapiro- Wilkes test is an example of a post-hoc test. True or False
The above boxplot is from an ANOVA analysis comparing three groups of plants weights: a control group, and two different treatments. How many observations are outliers?
Based on the boxplot, the variances of each of the three groups are aproximately equal? true or false
Based on the boxplot, an ANOVA analysis would probably reveal a statistically significant difference between groups? true or false
6.0 5.5 O 5.0 4.5 4.0 Treatment 2 Treatment 1 Control Treatment GroupExplanation / Answer
The Shapiro- Wilkes test is a formal test utilized to see if data comes from a normal distribution
This is not post-hoc test
hence False
since there are two dots in the entire boxplot. the number of outliers is 2
The standard deviation of a data depicts the variability. The variability of data can also be interpreted with the help of IQR , that is the difference of the third and the first quartile
SO for the first boxplot IQR is = 5.3-4.6 = 0.7
For the second boxplot the IQR = 4.75-4.2 = 0.55
For the third boxplot the IQR = 5.75-5.25 = 0.5
For boxplot two and three the variances may be approximately equal, but for the first boxplot the variances seems to be large.
Hence we cannot conclude that the variances are equal for all the boxplots
Thus the answer is FALSE (F)
Based on the boxplots, we can observe that the median of all the groups varies to agreat extent, The range of the data also varies greatly and we can also observe that the boxplot one is negatively skewed and boxplot three is positively skewed, which clearly indicates the differences in all the three groups.
Thus we can conclude that the ANOVA would probably reveal a statistically significant difference between the groups. So the answer is TRUE (T)
