10 Point Bonus: Directions: This Assignment must be done in Live Text. Take a position. Write a short essay. Your discussion should be centered around the second amendment, a proposed ban on assault rifles, party politics in the U. S. and the recent mass killings that occurred in a Park Land, Florida High School. Scenario: The Big AR-15 Gun Raffle The "Black Panther" Business Club in the College of Business was excited. They had just finished their weekly meeting and had voted on their 2018 Spring Fund Raiser. The Promo would read Big AR-15 Gun Raffle. One of their members father Mr. Killmonger, is a successful business man and a proud member of the NRA. He owns a gun shop and has agreed to donate to the club two AR-15 Assault style rifles, which would be raffled off for S10 a ticket. The tickets would be sold by the student club members. The businessman has all but guaranteed that the club will make a "killing" as far as their finances go, if the raffle isa success. He has spoken to several club members and told them that America has a love affair with guns. He believes we need "more guns, not less guns". It would be a solution to mass kilng in schools. Another club member Mary, thinks that her fellow students have lost their minds. She wonders if 18-year-old students should ever be allowed to win, purchase, or carry an assault rifle. What happens to gun free zones If a student or teacher were to win the raffle? She was always taught that crazy people with guns kill people and you must be crazy to kill a lot of people. Why would anyone want to raffle off an assault rifle? Mary is so upset that she is headed straight to the University's president office after class. She wants him to stop the Big Raffle in its tracts and put an end what she calls senseless nonsense. She says too many innocent lives are being lost because of Assault Rifles. She thinks they should all be banned. She believes the whole idea of an AR-15 Raffle on a college campus is totally unethical What should the President do? What would you do?Explanation / Answer
The President should certainly heed to the concern raise by student Mary. But with the lack of gun control measure, he is handicapped to take immediate action. Thus, we should immediately call upon a counsel comprising of the senior members of the university along with some representatives of the Business Club. With appropriate discussion with the counsel, the President should interfere in the matter and restrict the club from organizing such activities. In addition to this, he should also attempt to formulate a general code of conduct with respect to various student activities being organized in the university. Moreover, he could also use his influence and seek to draw out a different terms of association with the businessman, Mr Killmonger.
Being a student, I would have definitely supported Mary by formulating a campaign aimed to dissuade students from getting being fascinated by guns. I should also seek help from the experts in conducting workshops where the students would be guided about the ills of guns and how to be involved in other activities to stay away from them. Moreover, I would also help the business club find another alternative to compensate the financial loss due to cancellation of sponsorship for their event.
