The operators are convinced that the machine is not working properly. The machine is guaranteed for any setting between 1.00 and 1.50 cm with a variation of +/- 0.07 cm. The product specifications are 1.20 +/- 0.05 cm. Results are shown below. Does Crash and Burn have a quality problem? Explain.

Yes, Cash and Burn have a quality problem since samples taken on 4 days out of 10 days have average product specifications outside the range of 1.20 cm +/- 0.05 cm. Since the mean product specification is 1.20 cm with a standard deviation of 0.05 cm, hence upper control limit is 1.25 cm and lower control limit is 1.15 cm. The samples taken on July 23, 24, 25 and 26 are outliers, i.e. 4 outliers out of 10 samples. This clearly shows that Crash and Burn have a quality problem.
