You work for an agency that provides support groups for victims of domestic violence in local shelters. One of the objectives of the group is to help clients feel more in control of their lives. You wonder whether or not support groups are effective in doing that.

The problem is to verify whether the support group can help client to feel more in control of their lives.

The research statement is to study the effectiveness of the support group in controlling lives of domestic violence victims.

Here the independent variable is the support or help received from the support group and dependent variable is the victim's control of their lives.

Research question is agency's support group is effective or not for the given purpose.

Here one hypothesis could be to find out the proportion of victim's who had more control in their lives after receiving help from support group and test the proportion i.e. test of one proportion against some particular value.

If the proportion is more than 0.5 say, then the support group is more or less successful in controlling victim's life.

If the sample size is more than 30, we can apply normal approximation for one sample test of proportion.
