Question

Please answer all parts The Hawks ticketing staff has determined that if a customer attends the game and the Hawks win, that customer will buy a ticket to the next home game 63% of the time. If the team loses the customer will buy a ticket for the next game only 34% of the time. Over the past three seasons the Hawks have won 58% of their home games. Find the following probabilities. a) the probability the customer buys a ticket to the next game b) the probability the Hawks won if the customer has bought a ticket to the next game c) the probability the Hawks lost if the customer did not buy a ticket to the next game

Explanation / Answer

a) P(customer buys a ticket) = 0.58x0.63 + (1-0.58)x0.34 = 0.5082

b) P(hawks won | customer bought a ticket to next game) = P(hawks won and customer bought ticket) / P(customer bought a ticket)

= 0.58x0.63/0.5082 = 0.7190

c) P(hawks lost | customer did not buy a ticket to next game) = P(hawks lost and customer did not buy ticket) / P(customer did not buy a ticket)

= (1-0.58)(1-0.34) / ((1-0.58)(1-0.34) + 0.58x(1-0.63))

= 0.2722/(0.2722 + 0.2146)

= 0.5592
