Please answer the questions blew(typed, not in photo), thank you very much!:

"Use SPSS to compute descriptive statistics for the MOVIE TRIVIA scale scores and for the STATS EFFICACY scale scores. 1. What is the mean, median, and mode for each of the variables?

2. What is the range, standard deviation, and variance for each of the variables?

3. If you were only able to report one measure of central tendency and one measure of variability for these variables, what would you use? Why?

4. If you were to randomly drop one case from your data, what do you think would happen to the mean and standard deviation for the MOVIE TRIVIA variable?

5. Choose one case (at random) and drop it. Recompute the mean and standard deviation for the remaining cases. What do you observe? Was your prediction in #4 correct? Explain what you see. Make sure include the case dropped for the previous question.

6. What will happen to the mean and standard deviation if you add 3 to every person’s score on the MOVIE TRIVIA scale? What will happen to the mean and standard deviation if you multiple every person’s score on the MOVIE TRIVIA scale by 3?

7. Add 3 to every case on the MOVIE TRIVIA scale and compute the mean and standard deviation. Do the results conform to what you expected?

8. Multiply every case on the MOVIE TRIVIA scale by 3 and compute the mean and standard deviation. Do the results conform to what you expected?"

Explanation / Answer

1. What is the mean, median, and mode for each of the variables?

Answer:

For the variable MOVIETRIVIA, the mean is given as 5.9583, median is given as 6 and mode is given as 6. For the variable STATSEFFICACY, the mean is given as 3.7788, median is given as 3.85 and mode is given as 4.

2. What is the range, standard deviation, and variance for each of the variables?

Answer:

For the variable MOVIETRIVIA, range is given as below:

Range = Maximum – minimum = 10 – 1 = 9

Standard deviation = 1.98865

Variance = 3.955

For the variable STATSEFFICACY, range is given as below:

Range = Maximum – minimum = 4.23 – 3.08 = 1.15

Standard deviation = 0.32344

Variance = 0.105

3. If you were only able to report one measure of central tendency and one measure of variability for these variables, what would you use? Why?

Answer:

If we were only able to report one measure of central tendency and one measure of variability for the given two variables, then we would select the arithmetic mean as the measure of central tendency and standard deviation as the measure of variability, because both variables have ratio level of measurements and also range of these variables is considerably low.

4. If you were to randomly drop one case from your data, what do you think would happen to the mean and standard deviation for the MOVIE TRIVIA variable?

Answer:

If we were to randomly drop one case from our data, then the mean of the variable MOVIE TRIVIA will be increase if the observation is less than previous mean for all cases and it will be decrease if the observation is greater than previous mean for entire cases. For the standard deviation, it will happen in the same way, this means if the observation is less than previous mean for all cases and it will be decrease if the observation is greater than previous mean for entire cases.
