Question
A. You are paid to investigate the average amount that households in the Greater Yo spend on grocery in a given quarter of the year 1. What is the variable of interest for this study? 2. What is the target population for this study? 3. What is the statistical entity for this study? 4. What is the parameter of interest for this study? 5. How would you make inference about that parameter? Please be specific by listing the relevant statistic and the estimator. Area 6. Why would you use a random sample for this study? Please be specific. 7. Will the sample data that you collect be quantitative or qualitative? why? 8. Will the sample data that you collect be time-series or cross-sectional? Why?Explanation / Answer
1) Variable of interest is average amount spend on groceries items
2) Target population is the households in the greater Youngstown area.
3) The Statistical entity for this study is household of greater Youngstown area.
4) Mean and Standard deviation is the parameter of interest for this study.
5) The inference we will made for parameters by using testing of hypothesis. For example
If we need to test the average amount spend by households is greater than or less than some amount.
6) We will use random sample for this study just to ensure we don't have biasness and each household have equal chance to select. Then by using random sample we may have low income house, middle income house and high income house.
Then there will be no biasness in the test.
7) The sample data we collect will be quantitative, because here we are getting samples of average amount spend on groceries.
8) It is a cross sectional study because here we are collecting data of average amount spend on groceries from different households at the same time.
