A hotel purchases 7 of these televisions sets Part a: In how many ways can a hotel purchase 7 and receive 2 of the defective sets? Part b: What is the probability that the hotel receives 2 of the defective sets? Part c: What is the probability that the hotel receives at least one of the defective sets? a) o I have placed my work and my answer on my answer sheet. b) OI want to have points deducted from my test for not working this problem.Explanation / Answer
There are total 11 televisions in the shipment. and 4 are defective hence 7 non-defective
(a)
If hotel orders 7 televisions, 2 defective televisions can be selected in 4C2 ways and remaining 5 non defective tvs can be selected in 7C5 ways
Total number of possible ways = 4C2 * 7C5 = 126
(b)
Total possible ways of getting 7 televisions are 11C7 = 330
Hence required probability = 126/330 = 0.3818
(c)
Consider that hotel receives no defective, this means all 7 tvs are delivered from 7 non defective tvs. This is possible only in 1 ways. Its probability = 1/330
Required probability = 1 - 1/330 = 0.997 (probability of getting at least one defective)
