A standard deck of cards contains 52 cards. One card is selected from the deck. (a) Compute the probability of randomly selecting an eight or nine. (b) Compute the probability of randomly selecting an eight or nine or two. () Compute the probability of randomly selecting a king or heart. a. P(eight or nine)=D (Round to three decimal places . as needed.) b. P(eight or nine or two) = | | (Round to three decimal places as needed.) C. P(king or heart) = (Round to three decimal places as needed.) OExplanation / Answer
a)
No of nines in 52 card deck = 4
No of eights in 52 card deck = 4
Probability that card selected is eight or nine = (4+4)/52 = 8/52 = 0.154
b)
No of tows in 52 card deck = 4
Probability that card selected is eight or nine or two = (4+4+4)/52 = 12/52 = 0.231
c)
No of kings in the deck of 52 cards = 4
No of hearts in the deck of 52 cards = 13
No of cards which are both kings and heart = 1
Probability that card selected is king or heart = (13+4-1)/52 = 16/52 = 0.30769 ~ 0.308
