TESTING THE AREA MODEL es. She put three out, put it 2-108. cubes in a bag - two blue cubes and one yellow cube. She pulled one cube back in the bag, and then drew another. a. Use a list or a tree diagram to organize the possible color combinations she could b. This time Nina made the chart at right. draw. How many are there? What is P(blue and blue)? BY BY B BE Based on the chart, what is the probability of drawing two blue blocks? Is this the same probability you found in part (a)? Y YB YB c. Looking at her work, Luis said, 2 "I think I can simplify this diagram.'" His rectangle is shown at right. What is the area of the section representing blue and blue? Does this y (1 match the probability that Nina found? B() BY YB

Explanation / Answer

a) there are four colour combination possible

{BB,BR,RB,RR}

P(B) = 2/3   as there are 2 blue and 3 total balls

hence Probability of BB = 2/3 *2/3 = 4/9

b)

P(Blue and Blue) = 4/9   {see total number = 9, number of .BB = 4}

yes this is same as a) part

c)

area = 2/3 *2/3 =4/9

yes same in all three case
