How many seconds elapse between the time a command is sent from Earth and the time the command is received by Voyager at Neptune? Assume the distance from Earth to Neptune is 4.50E+12 m 15000s Submit Answer Submission not graded. Use more digits. Tries 0/16 Previous TriesExplanation / Answer
Given,
d = 4.5 x 10^12 m
We know that the signals(command) travels with the speed of light, v = c = 3 x 10^8 m/s
from the defination of speed:
speed = dist/time = d/t
t = dist/speed = d/v
t = 4.5 x 10^12/(3 x 10^8) = 1.5 x 10^4 s
Hence, t = 1.5 x 10^4 s = 1500 s.
