How do I imput the following into Mega Stat. I need a clearly stated answer. I could not follow the first one I found on the sight.

We have observed birds on airport runways and found on Saturdays, 5 birds arrive if there are no delaysin landings during peak hours. Assume no delays for the next few questions.

a. what is the probability , as you observe for an hour that less than 4 birds arrive? i got 0.2650

b. what is the probability, as you observe for an hour that no less than 4 birds arrive?  

c. what is the probabilty, as you observe for an hour that more than 6 birds arrive.

My problems is in inputing the statistics, I thought it should be done in Poisson however I am not getting correct answer  

Explanation / Answer

This is a question of poisson distribution

Click on megastat list, then click probability

Then choose discrete probability distribution

A dialog box will open, choose Poisson

Give mu, mean rate of occrence a value of 5 since 5 birds arrived

a) give maximum x value = 6

See the cumulative probability till 3 which should come out 0.2650259

b) 1-0.2650259 = 0.7349741

c) more than 6 = 1-cummulative probability@6 = 0.2378165

PS: You were thinking absolutely correct and your first answer is correct as well
