Question

Hospital falls, defined as patients accidentally slipping or tripping and falling, are a major concern at ospitals worldwide. Hospitals (and insurance companies), for obvious reasons, are very interested in minimizing the number of falls. Three hospitals in central North Carolina of similar size and with similar patient profiles agreed to participate in a study to gauge how big a problem hospital falls really are and implement interventions to try and reduce their number. Two of the hospitals implemented two different interventions aimed at lowering the fall rate (e.g., identifying and removing tripping hazards, increasing grittier/sticker floor surfaces, providing patients with better soled shoes, etc.) while the third hospital did not implement any changes. For six months the three hospitals tracked the number of falls that occurred at their facility. The following data was collected. No intervention 56 Intervention 1 Intervention 2 Number of Falls 6342 Test at the 10% level whether there is any evidence that either or both interventions were effective whether the we can reject the null hypothesis that the number of falls are th that the p-value was computed as 0.0958. , ie. e same at each hospital.Note

Explanation / Answer

Since the p-value computed was 0.0958 which is less than 0.10 (10% significance level), so we ccan conclude that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected at 10 % significance level. We have sufficient evidence to indicate that the number of the falls are different at each hospitlal. The result is statistically significant.
