Question

The following table represents data on the number of homework assignments completed, X, versus grade, Y, on a 20 point quiz. Note all frequencies f-LI 2. HW Quiz Grade X2 Y2 XY 12 0 16 14 18 17 16 4 Totals (1) What is the explained error in using y in place of y, for the student who finished 4 homework assignments? (2) What is the residual error for a student who finished 5 homework assignments and got a quiz grade of 17? d. e. Is it reasonable to use the regression line we found to predict the grade for someone who finished atotalof8 assignments? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

2. From the regrssion equations

The regression equation is
Quiz Grade(y) = 10.6 + 1.09 Head Width (X)

Give X = 4 then the prediction value of grade is

Quiz Grade(y) = 10.6 + 1.09 Head Width (4) =  14.96

Give X = 5 then the prediction value of grade is

Quiz Grade(y) = 10.6 + 1.09 Head Width (5) = 1605

Residual error = 16.05 - 17 = -0.95

e) We cann't predict value of grade at head width is 8 since 8 is not the in the given data
