The Hypothesis:
H0: The 4 tribes were contemporaries of each other, i.e the mean age of the shards are the same for the 4 sites.
Ha: The 4 tribes were not contemporaries of each other, i.e the mean age of the shards are different for at least 2 of the sites.
The Test Statitic:
The table below shows the calculation of F. (I have also done the calculations for the table at the end)
Fobserved = 7.898
F crtical3,8 (0.05) = 4.1
The Decision rule is if Fobserved is > F critical, Reject H0.
The Decision: Since Fobserved (7.898) is > F critical (4.1), We Reject H0.
The Conclusion: There is sufficient evidence at the 95% significance level to conclude that the 4 tribes were not contemporaries of one another.
