-2 The next five questions (A. 1, 2, 3 and B. 1, 2) involve Green Move, a startup company which focuses on environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation products Background on Green Move Company: Much of its startup money came from a $15 million U. S. government loan at zero % interest as part of the Federal government's investment in the Green Technology Initiative. Green Move's three founders, who are also among the current shareholders, are Robert, Lewis and Viktor. All attended the same MBA program at Suffolk University in Boston. Robert and Lewis were born and raised in Boston, while Viktor grew up in Russia. In founding Green Move, the three agreed that their collective mindset could best be described as "competitive with a conscience." They support the fundamentals of capitalism and agree that the free market operates to the benefit of society. Robert serves as CEO, Viktor as Chief Technology Officer and Lewis has moved on to other opportunities Green Move has experienced recent success from the much anticipated launch of its "Zero Pedal," a solar-powered bike that includes a small throttle and break system. The company received a patent on the technology for the use of a small solar panel that propels the bike at speeds close to 15 mph. Zero Pedal is unregulated by the National Highway Safety Administration because the bike is not "gas powered." The anticipated launch of Zero Pedal appears to be popular among college students in the northeastern part of the United States resulting from advertising in social media among area colleges and universities. Green Move maintains a corporate office in Boston where it employs 50 people who are young and energetic and the company has potential for tremendous growth. PART A-SUPPLY CHAIN Green Move's recent success is due largely to two reasons: (1) popularity of the anticipated Zero Pedal launching r Group. The Solar Group is Green Move's only supplier that manufactures the solar panels which are critical in the Zero Panel. The Solar Group is located in Bangladesh where it employs

Explanation / Answer

A.1 In this case Robert should warn the company about the terms related to labours and working conditions to the Solar group and if they put a check on it then he can continue with the contract otherwise he has to break the contract as it is considered as unethical practice and comes under illegal means of business. Both interests are at stake but as per case study Green Move has only one supplier for its critical component therefore they are at major risk.

A.2 Every country has its own standard for industrial labours, thus he should focus on local conditions and laws while preparing the contract terms related to working standards. He should focus on those minimum standards that are defined under U.S. labour law for getting the work done through off shore means. It may include conditions like safety measures, working hours etc.

A.3 The blog may cause a negative impact on Green Move’s brand as the brand focus on usage of clean energy but it is achieved through illegal means or through substandard working labours. It may cause serious damage to the brand of the company and may also attract legal problems for them.

B.1 Viktor should provide a bid on the property lease but include only first envelope. He should tell him that he is ready to pay the brokerage but at one go and did not want to influence the bidding of government building by external agents as it is against the ethical practice of running a business. Viktor should consult its legal team to look out the various options to settle such matter. Influencing the bidding by paying bribes is unethical as well as illegal therefore he should not fall in such trap.

B.2 Green Move should expand its operation in Russia if it suits its business operation and if he is getting the expected support through legal and ethical means. He should consider all the rules and regulation related to technology, labour, offshore operations of both local Russia and U.S.
