Hypothesis: Presence of predators and unfavourable envonmental conditions led to the evolutionary development of internal fertilization. Internal fertilization has an adaptive advantage of being protected from predators and unfavourable conditions.
External fertilization for example that occurs in fishes has many challenges from the environment as well as predators. As an evolutionary process, it was dominated by internal fertilization to overcome the negative environment and thus, increasing the chances of fertility.
Internal fertilization is the fertilization inside the female body. This provides greater chances for a sperm to be delivered to the egg and for fertilization to occur. In birds internal fertilization occurs.
So, due to the adaptive changes of evolution, two same species lying in a lake with some distance are having two different types of reproduction. The reason for this evolution is may be the dominant predators and unfavourable environmental conditions present in that area.
