A)An effienceny experct claims thath anew ergonomic desk chair makes typing at a computer terminal easier and faster. To test it, 15 volunteers are selected. Using both the new chair and thier old, each volunteer types a randomly selected passage for 2 minutes and the number of correct words typed is recorded.

B)A developer want to know if the houses in two different neighborhoods have the same mean price. She selects 10 houses from each neighborhood at random and test the null hypothesis that the means are equal.

A) A study in Califormia showed that studnets who study a musical instrument have higher GPAS than students who do not, 3.59 to 2.91. Of the music students, 16% had all A's, compared with only 5% among the students who did not study a musical instrument.

B) 210 college students were radnomly assignmed to play either a violent (Wolfenstein 3D) or nonviolent video game (Myst) - A short time later, the students who played the violent game punished and opponent (recieved a nose blast with varying intestity) for a longer period of time thn did students who had played the nonviolent video game.

3) a) A paired t-test is used to compare two population means where you have two samples in which observations in one sample can be paired with observations in the other sample.

It is a paired test as all inviduals first use 'old' and then same people use 'new' desk.

b) The Independent Samples t Test compares the means of two independent groups in order to determine whether there is statistical evidence that the associated population means are significantly different. The Independent Samples t Test is a parametric test

This is an example of independent sample test as the neighborhoods that are being compared are different.
