12.) In September, the hospital had three coding professionals who coded 1,500 inpatient records and 22 of the records failed the quality screens.
a. What is the average number of records coded by each coding professional?
b. What was the average number of records coded each working day (Monday thru Friday at 21 workdays) in September? Round to two decimals places.
c. What percentage of records passed the quality screens? Round to two decimal places.
Explanation / Answer
Hospital
a) Number of coding professionals = 3
No. of records coded = 1500
No. of failed coded records = 22
So, the actual records coded = 1500 - 22 = 1478
The average number of records coded by each professional = 1478 / 3 = 492.66 or 493 (on an average)
b) There are 21 workdays in September,
So, average number of records coded each working day = 1478 / 21 = 70.38 or 70 (on an average)
c) The number of records passed the quality screens = 1478
So, the percentage of records passed the quality screens = (1478/1500) * 100 = 98.53%
This means that if out of 1500, 1478 of the records passed, out of 100, 98.53 of them would pass, so the pass percentage is 98.53.
