Homework: Chapter 3: Homework Problem 3.8b Question Help Roger Ginde is developing a program in supply chain management certification for managers. Ginde has listed a number of activities that must be completed before a training program of this nature could be conducted. The activities, immediate predecessors, and times appear in the accompanying table: Activity Immediate Predecessorfs) Time (days) 10 A, D E, F 12 This exercise contains only parts b, c, and d. b) The critical activities for the leadership training program development project are B-D E c) The project length for the leadership training program development project 33 days. d) Slack time for each of the activities is G Slack Time

Explanation / Answer

The possible paths and their durations as follows :

A-E-G = 3 + 4 + 12 = 19

B-D-E-G = 7 + 10 + 4 + 12 = 33

C-F-G = 2 + 5 + 12 = 19

Since B-D-E-G has the longest path, it forms the critical path .

Since length of the project is same as duration of critical path , project length should be considered as 33 days

It is to be noted that all activities lying on critical path will have ZERO slack

Therefore slack for activities B, D , E and G are ZERO

Slack for activity A = Duration B-D-E-G - Duration A-E-G = 33 - 19 = 14 days

Slack for activities C , F = Duration of B-D-E-G – Duration C-F-G = 33 – 19 = 14 days
