Question
a. ( po) Change the standard deviation fiom 'population" to "sample". Sinulate 10 confidence intervals with a 90% confidence level Choose a sample size between 20 and 50·Look at your confidence intervals. Take note of their width (with your cursor hover over the point estinate to see estimate and margin of error), recall the Width2x Margin Of Error. For a procedure that uses the sample standard deviation instead of the population standard deviation, are the widths of your 10 confidence intervals the same or different? Should they be the same or should they be different? Why?Explanation / Answer
Answer- Change from sample to population doesn't matter as long as sample size is feasible and reasonably large.THus it becomes a significant factor to look at the sample size. Width or margin of error would vary across the 10 confidence intervals which are based on different sample size.
Width of confidence interval depends on the standard error which in turn depends on the sample size. Standard error is inversely related to the sample size. Larger the sample size, narrower the width of the confidence interval and vice-versa.
Hence, with the value of sample size increasing width will fall and vice-versa.
