Chapter 10.5 James Stewart Calculus 4th edition #34
(a) Find a parametric repsentation for the torus rotated about the z-axis of the circle with center (b,0,0) and radius a < b. Hint [take as parameters for the angles theta and alpha as seen in the figure.
(b) Use the parametric equations found in part (a) to graph the torus with several values of a and b.
I have found the equations using another chegg answer and the equation reads as followed.
x=bcos(thetha)+acos(alpha)cos(theta) y=bsin(theta)+acos(alpha)sin(theta)
and z=asin(alpha) with the angles exisiting between 0 and 2pi.
Need help with part b.
Explanation / Answer
Find a parametric representation C(t) of a path that travels in the increasing x-direction along the graph f(x)=4 (x^2)-5 in |R^2 equal to or between -4 and 5 Do the values of t matter? Otherwise, the simplest way to do it is just set t = x, so C(t) = (t, 4t^2 - 5), t going from -4 to 5
