Auxiliary contact is secondry switching device which work with devices like contactors and circuit breakers (primary switiching devices).Auxiliary contact is used to indicate state of contactor or any other primary switching device. in motor starter it indicates that contactor is in hold condition and supply is going to motor. there are two types of auxiliary contacts 1. Normally open(NO) 2.Normally closed(NC). the device highlighted in the figure is normally open(NO). when start button is pushed it causes contact to energize resulting a closed circuit and motor gets started. When stop button is pressed NC auxiliary contact gets denegized and opens.
