Question
The two seven segment LEDs shown in the figure below are used to display digits! a- What is the number that should be sent to output ports DO to D7 to display the digit 5 in the LED on the left, such that DO is the least significant bit and D7 is the most significant bit b- Explain how the two seven segment leds will display the two digits of temperature, since they are connected to the same ports. 7 resistors Common anode LED * The LED segment is organized as following: AA:DO B: D1 GD: D3 E: D4 E C F:D5 *L G: D6 The common anodes are connected to D7.Explanation / Answer
a. Common anode cofiguration of seven segment display requires logic 0 at D0, D1, D2, D3, D4, D5 and D6 lines to turn ON corresponding segment and logic 1 to turn OFF.
To display 5, segments A, F, G, C , D must be turned ON and B, E segments turned OFF by applying D7D6D5D4D3D2D1D0 = 10010010 = 0x92
b. By turning D7 bit logic 1 and 0 at a rate of 1/25th of a second (approx), we can alternately send respective digits on seven segment display and cheat human eyes due to persistence of human vision.
