Question

Provide a word document that answers the following two questions as concisely as possibly (two paragraphs maximum) a) Explain, in your own words, why we report confidence interval estimates for population proportions b) A person collected a random sample of 1,000 students with access to gaming devices. He reports that 35% of students in the sample like MarioKart. He also reports that a confidence interval estimate for the proportion of students (with access to gaming devices) who like MarioKart is 3 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Explain, in the context of this example, in your own words, what is meant by i) a confidence level of 95%. ii) a margin of error of 3 percentage points at a confidence level of 95%

Explanation / Answer

To interpret ba confidence interval remember that the sample information is random, but there is pattern to it's behavior if we look at all possible samples. Each possible sample gives us a different sample proportion and a different interval. But, even though the results vary from sample to sample , we are confident because the margin of error would be satisfied for 95 percentage of all samples.

There is trade off between the level of confidence and the precision of the interval.we can use more confidence to settle wider interval.

Formula for the confidence interval depends on the normal approximation.

Confidence interval is only related to sampling variability.

Level of confidence at 95 percentage means we can test the hypothesis up to 95 percentage. We have to compare tabulated value with Calculated value for making decisions for the given hypothesis.

If test statistical valu is less than table value, we accept the hypothesis other wise we reject the hypothesis.
