Question
Resorts and Spas, a magazine devoted to upscale vacation and accommodations, published its Reader’s Choice List of the top 20 independent beachfront boutique hotels in the world. The data shown are the scores received by these hotels based on the results from Resorts and Spas’ annual Readers’ Choice Survey. Each score represents the percentage of respondent who rated a hotel as excellent, very good, on one of three criteria (comfort, amenities, and in-house dining). An overall score was also reported and used to rank the hotels. The highest ranked hotel, the Muri Beach Odyssey, has an overall score of 94.3, the highest component of which is 97.7 for in-house dining.

a). Use the data to generate a regression output model in Excel. Determine the estimated multiple linear regression equation that can be used to predict the overall score given the scores for comfort, amenities, and in-house dining.
b). From the F-test results, is there an overall relationship between the independent variables and dependent variables at the 0.01 level of significance? Explain your answer.
c). Use the t-test to determine the significance level of each independent variable. What is the conclusion for each test at the 0.01 level of significance?
d). Remove all independent variables that are not significant at the 0.01 level of significant from the estimated regression equation. What is your recommended estimated regression equation? (Note: you will have to generate a regression model output using only the independent variables that are significant at the 0.01 level of significant).
e). How much of the variation in overall score in the sample does the estimated regression model in part (a) explain? How much of the variation in overall score in the sample does the recommended estimated regression model explain? Is the recommended estimated regression model better than estimated regression model in part (a)? why or why not?

Explanation / Answer
a)
Overall=35.6967+0.1093*Comfort+0.244268*Amenities+0.24743*In-House Dining
b)
H0: B1=0
H1: B1#0
H0: B2=0
H1: B2#0
H0: B3=0
H1: B3#0
Looking at the table above p-value for Amenities and In-House Dining is less than 0.01 and hence those two variables are significant
c)
H0: B1=B2=B3=0
H1: Not all B is equal to 0
Reject H0 because Significance F is less than 0.05 which means the model is overall significant is explaining overall score
