Is there convincing evidence that the proportion of American adults who oppose reinstatement of the draft is greater than 0.7? Use a significance level of 0.05. (Round your test statistic to two decimal places and your P-value to four decimal places.) There is[-Select-,evidence to suggest that more than 0.7 of all American adults oppose reinstatement of the draft. You may need to use the appropriate table in Appendix A to answer this question. Solution:-
The sample proportion is P^ = 710/1000 = 0.710
Hypothesis
H0 : P = 0.7
H1 : P > 0.7
considering large sample, so use the Z-test for testing the hypothesis.
Let alpha = 0.05 level of significance.
Z = P^ - P/sqrt(pq/n)
= (0.71 - 0.7)/sqrt(0.7*0.3/1000)
= 0.69
P - value = 1 - P(Z < 0.69)
= 1 - 0.7549
= 0.2451
Since P value is grester than alpha = 0.05 level pf significance.
Therefore we fail to reject the null hypothesis.
=> there is convincing evidence to suggest that more than 0.7 of all American adults oppose reinstatement of the draft.
