O The data supports the claim that the mean assembly time is less than 2 hours ° There is not enough data to support the claim that the mean assembly time is less than 2 hours. wo reject the claim that the mean assembly time is less than 2 hours 0 we have proven that that the mean assembly time is less than 2 hours. 05 Additional Materials eBook

Explanation / Answer

(a) Let Ho denote the Null Hypothesis and Ha denote the alternate hypothesis and let u denote avg. assembly time

Ho: u<=2 hrs

Ha: u>2 hrs

This therefore is a left tail test as we will be finding the area to the left of the test statistic in the standard normal curve.

(b) The t test statistic t = (x - u) / (s/Sqrt(n)) where x is the sample mean, u is mean of the population, s is the sample standard deviation and n is the number of sample observations

i.e. t = (1.88 - 2)/(0.78/Sqrt(35)) = -0.91

(c) The p value of the test statistic or the area to the left of the test statistic on the t dist curve, which can be found using t dist table or excel = 0.1846

(d) Since p >0.05 (significance level), the conclusion is that we fail to reject the Null Hypothesis

(e) Hence the concluding statement would be

The data supports the claim that the mean assembly time is less than two hours
