I have a question, I have a correltation project to do and it says
CORRELATION PROJECT: Find factors with a GLOBAL theme that have meaning to you and in which you would like to test for possible correlation. You have to collect raw, real, data (meaning it cannot come from a survey of yours). Use Gapminder.org for your data because it has loads of data sets to draw from. For instance (and now this cannot be used) you might want to see if there is a correlation between literacy rates and crime rates. Create a Powerpoint presentation. Please see the project sheet for the requirements. You have to do 2 correlations and the project sheet tells you what to include for each one. For each correlation you should pick ONE year...and then you must choose at least 20 countries and collect your data from each of those countries that year for whatever two topics you are correlatng. The grading rubric is included below to include the directions for the project and how to use excel to do correlation analysis. NOTE: Just like all your hw problems...remember...it takes 2 sets of data to make 1 correlation. This project requires that you do 2 correlations, so you will end up doing 2 graphs, calculating 2 different r values, 2 regression line equations, etc...You CAN re-use one of your sets of data for your 2nd correlation if you want. . Create a Powerpoint presentation. Please see the project sheet for the requirements. You have to do 2 correlations and the project sheet tells you what to include for each one. The grading rubric is included below to include the directions for the project and how to use excel to do correlation analysis. ANOTHER NOTE: when picking your subjects...you must choose ones that are in rates (like %, or per capita, or per 1000 or per 100,000 or per person) not data that are total numbers of something.
I was wondering if you could give me some good options to use for my two correltations. I have been trying to figure out what to use but I just dont know. also it says I will have two graphs can you tell me exactly what that means? isnt it one set of data i would put in the calculator under L1 and the second under L2? like how would i have 2 different r values.
Explanation / Answer
Your professor wants you to calculate two correlations, one for one set of data and another one for another set ( one set of data can be reused for the second correlation; likewise we can reuse the dataset of urban poverty % for the second correlation calculation )
Calculate the first correlation between :
Urban population growth (annual %)
Urban poverty (% urban people below national urban poverty line)
This will give you one scatter plot and you can fit a regression line on it.
Calculate ,
Second Correlation between:
Urban poverty (% urban people below national urban poverty line)
Rural poverty (% rural people below national rural poverty line)
Draw another scatter plot for this set and fit a regression line.
Two correlations and the corresponding regression line come from the two different sets ( one variable reused) of data that's why you will get two graphs and two r values etc.
If you have any further doubts /queries let me know in the comments.
