Question
A principal of a local high school wants to determine which of three SAT programs (Trinity, Milton, Choate) will most prepare students for their upcoming SAT. To assess the impact of each program, she asks a sample of 25 students to try their promotional free session and rate how well the material was conveyed to them from 1 (no understanding) to 5 (good understanding). If the principal was to compute a one-way within-subjects ANOVA, what will be the degrees of freedom between groups, persons, and error?
Explanation / Answer
Here k = 3 (Trinity Milton and Choate) and N = 25
For a one way Anove there are 2 types of degrees of freedom.
The Degrees of freedom between groups= df1 = k -1 = 3 - 1 = 2
The degrees of freedom within groups (error) = df2 = N - k = 25 - 3 = 22
The total degrees of freedom = df between + df error = 22 + 2 = 24
