Question
I need help to rewrite this sentence or paraphrase without changing the meaning.
1.There are 5,700 immigrants who own small businesses in the Twin Cities area, as documented in a recent study conducted by the New York City-based researchers at Fiscal Policy Institute, which partnered with the Americas Society/Council of the Americas group.
Beyond identifying the sheer number of foreign-born business owners, the 41-page report, "Bringing Vitality to Main Street: How Immigrant Small Businesses Help Local Economies Grow," also uncovers surprising facts about immigrant-owned small businesses in the U.S. Among other things:
Immigrants own 53 percent of grocery stores, 38 percent of restaurants, 58 percent of dry cleaners, 61 percent of gas stations, 45 percent of nail salons, 43 percent of liquor stores and 32 percent of both jewelry and clothing stores in the U.S.
2. Mr. Johnson goes on to ask you to "observe the drug dealing... the illegal shellfish harvesting... the drive-by shootings." Alternatively, you can observe the number of kids from immigrant homes who are at the top of their classes in our high schools, who are receiving scholarships to colleges and universities, who are volunteering in their community, who are working after school in the family business or who are performing in the local arts scene.
Contrary to the picture Mr. Johnson paints, immigrant families are under-represented on welfare rolls and in crime statistics and are over-represented in educational achievement. Dare I suggest that rather than forcing Canadian lifestyle, traditions and practices on newcomers to Canada, we might learn a thing or two about hard work, achievement and commitment to family and community from them?
3. The links between migration–both internally and internationally –and its effects have been increasing attentions at regional and international policylevel. According to the official statisticsfrom the International Organization for Migration (IOM), about 214 million people moved and worked abroad as for 2010, compared with 150 million in 2000.
Explanation / Answer
1. As per a recent study conducted by the new York City researchers of the Fiscal Policy Institute which is a partner of the America's society or council of the America's group reveal that there are around 5700 small business in the twin City area which are owned or managed by immigrants from different countries altogether.
The research is 41 page report that provide details regarding various aspect of immigrant business and there were also some shocking facts regarding the same. It states that the immigrants own around 53% of grocery stores along with 38% restaurants which is quite an interesting and important fact that reveals that the small business in US is quite filled with immigrants and if we have a close look it will be revealed that 43% liquor stores and 32% of jewellery and clothing stores are also owned by immigrants and service based business are also quite a bit which includes 58% of dry cleaners, 61% of gas station and 45% of nail salon as well.
2. Mr Johnson is concerned over the drug dealing issue and states it as a selfish harvest that is affecting the society. Mr Johnson feels that the immigrants are one of the most hard working community in Canada and the inhabitants of Canada should learn various aspects from then in order to sustain and be successful. Therefore I look up on students who are from immigrant families and are doing very good in schools and colleges along with that they also help their family by working hard at home or helping the family business to quite an extent. And it is true that hardworking should be learnt from them as they have set a standard in the society.
3. The immigrant population has a rise from the last census that was conducted back in 2000 and the number was around 150 million which is equal to 214 million in 2010 and by the trend the number is about to increase in the future. Regional and international policy are having an impact due to this increasing relation between migration both internally and externally based on the country. The statistics are from the international organization for migration which points out the rise in population of immigrants.
