Question
Use the t-distribution table to find the critical value(s) for the indicated alternative hypotheses, level of significance , and sample sizes n1 and n2. Assume that the samples are independent, normal, and random. Answer parts (a) and (b). (a) Find the critical value(s) assuming that the population variances are equal. - 1.356, 1.356 (Type an integer or decimal rounded to three decimal places as needed. Use a comma to separate answers as needed.) (b) Find the critical value(s) assuming that the population variances are not equal (Type an integer or decimal rounded to three decimal places as needed. Use a comma to separate answers as needed.)Explanation / Answer
a) from considering equal populaton variance ; degree of freedom n1+n2-2= 12
therefore at 0.2 level with 2 tailed test and 12 degree of freedom critical value =-1.356 ; 1.356
b)
considering population variance are not equal; from consevative method: degree of freedom =min(n1-1;n2-1)=5
therefore at 0.2 level with 2 tailed test and 5 degree of freedom critical value =-1.476 ; 1.476
